Psych: Thanks for the Great Times, Boys

Consider this a more lighthearted post.  Well, sort of.  It's not often I write about TV.

The nation stands emotionally impacted at the news that Psych will be ending with this, it's 8th season.  Hordes of us will never be able to look at a pineapple the same way again or hear the words "I've heard it both ways" without immediately wanting to follow it with "Come on, son."

Ok, seriously though, sad to see this one go.  Like, emotionally affected.  Mostly because it was something that my family enjoyed together and because you could tell that the cast and crew really had a lot of fun making it.  What’s better than going to a job where you literally have a bunch of laughs?

As a guy that’s into acting, believe me I know that this job wasn’t all toys and games.  I’m aware that shooting schedules and deadlines can be sticky, but I think what has been so fun about Psych is that they took themselves seriously enough, but not too seriously.

James Roday and Dule Hill have decent acting resumes, and I’m sure they’ll be fine, but in a way, Psych was one of the biggest things to date for both of them.  I know they’re both also involved in theater and other aspects of media (writing, producing, etc.), but still, my hat’s off to the whole crew for making something so iconic.  As others have already stated, Psych really made its mark on TV comedy as a genre, and what’s so bittersweet about it is that while it sort of created it’s own brand of comedy, I think it’ll be hard for anyone else to replicate without straight up ripping it off.  How can you have another Shawn and Gus without it blatantly just being another Shawn and Gus?

Episode after episode, all I could think to myself was, “Can you believe how much fun the writers must have had with this?  And the amount of childlike snark this allows a writer to have?”  And as an actor, can you imagine how much….well, FUN it must be to play one of those two characters?  Shawn’s constant references, Gus’ completely ridiculous emotional instability hiding just beneath the surface of the more “mature” of the two.  Man.

I felt the same way when Monk finally concluded.  So, a tip of the hat to the ladies and gents that made it so fun.  I can literally say that “growing up” (through high school and college), this was something my family and I enjoyed, and that’s something that I think would bring some warmth to any actor/writer/creator’s heart.  I hope those involved continue to have such positive experiences.

Because in the end, this was about a couple of friends.  And let's be honest, who doesn't want a friend like that?  And often, it's the characters that make you smile that you know you'll really miss.

Wait for iiiiiiiit....

But, Chris McCumber did say this….”…somehow I don't believe we've heard the last of Shawn and Gus.”

I hear that.

Consider my eyebrow raised.  Like, eyebrow raised, chin down, shoulders forward, in my best “creepy but intrigued Gus face”.

Addendum: I just read that Psych was canceled.  I was under the impression that this was more of a creative decision.  But now that I know this, my response is a firm, "COME ON, SON!!!!!"           :(

James Roday and Dule Hill are so amazing in their acting and it is so good to write such an amazing article about their work. So many fans love to watch them again and again and it's a great thing to do, but if the series has come to an end there must be something special in the coming future.

I am not really familiar of Psych. Is this a boy band group? Or are they Hollywood actors? Well, even that I am not familiar of them, I still got sad from the news that they have to break the bond that they once had. I hate goodbyes. But I do not judge them. All of them have reasons why they have to set their ways apart. They have their own lives that is why fans must not be sad about it. They have to support them no matter what happen because they still are the ones that give them inspiration anyway.

This is a cool drama series. I miss them so much. I'd love to watch something familiar.
